Writing & Editing · Teaching · Research
Writing is at the center of my professional work. In particular, I'm interested in how people use writing to communicate ideas, how writing changes across audiences and contexts, and how thoughtful revision makes communication more effective. My background in composition and rhetoric emphasizes the practical work of developing clear, effective writing for specific purposes.
I have taught college writing in both online and face-to-face settings, from first-year composition to advanced and specialized courses such as business and professional writing, workplace communication, and communicating scientific ideas to general audiences. Through this work, I've developed extensive experience evaluating writing and guiding writers through the process of revision, with particular attention to clarity, organization, style, and audience.
My own publications reflect my experience writing for different purposes and readerships. My research focuses on literacy practices, digital rhetoric, and online communities, particularly the ways fan fiction authors develop their skills and participate in collaborative writing communities. These interests inform my approach to writing as both a practical skill and a social and cultural activity.
