I prepared this report for a graduate course, Topics in Rhetoric & Composition: Cultural Literacy, at the University of Alabama. Following a visit to the Luverne Public Library in Luverne, Alabama, and a conversation with librarian Regina Grayson, I documented the library's efforts to support literacy and learning within its community.
Organized as a professional memorandum, the report summarizes programs and services for children, teenagers, adults, and English language learners, as well as access to computers and other educational resources. It also examines how the library balances community needs with limited resources. The sample demonstrates my ability to gather firsthand information, synthesize findings, and communicate them clearly in a concise, organized report.
Report writing, information gathering, synthesis and organization, audience awareness, and professional communication.
This report was originally written in March 2014 following a January 31 visit to the Luverne Public Library. It documents the library's programs, services, and community needs as reported at that time. Information about local demographics, available resources, and library programming may have changed since the report was prepared.
